Assert yourself
Fend off challengers, without throwing a punch.
Your boss vetoes a great idea, your colleague won’t return your calls and your customer is taking advantage. How do you stand up to someone who’s used to having it their way?
Sticking our neck out, and getting what we want, requires a careful balance. What sounded calm and collected in our head can come across as whiny or rude. The trick to getting what we need lies in being assertive, not aggressive. In this Live action you’ll experience the difference.
Example scenarios
Under pressure to meet a deadline and with a million other problems, you need assurance that your colleague will get it done on time. Your colleague has been distinctly non-committal and you suspect they’ll miss the deadline unless you act now.
A member of your project team is disruptive during meetings and rude in your one-to-ones. You suspect they have a problem with your leadership style so you need to assert yourself to make sure their behaviour doesn’t continue.
You’re presenting a proposal to our MD for final sign off. You’ve worked tirelessly on the project for months but the MD picks your proposal apart and questions your logic. How will you keep calm long enough to explain the rationale behind your decisions?
