Share bad news
Be the bearer of bad news, but to good reviews.
There’s a message someone really won’t want to hear, and it’s down to us to deliver it. While we might wish we could do the job via an anonymous email, there’s no choice but to take a deep breath, spit it out and brace ourselves for their reaction.
An emotional outpour, a torrent of abuse or a stiff upper lip – different responses need different skills to soften the blow. In this session you’ll practise dealing with them all.
It may never be easy, but sharing bad news will be a lot easier at the end of this Live action than it was at the start.
Example scenarios
You need to tell a property developer that their potentially profitable application has been refused, after you initially told them it was acceptable. How do you deliver the news and still maintain a good relationship with the disgruntled developer?
You’ve noticed errors in a senior colleague’s work. How do you let them know they’ll have to re-do it without seeming disrespectful?
You need to tell the sales-oriented MD that their brilliant new pricing idea violates competition law. They have no time for trivial legal regulations. How do you persuade them to consider alternatives?
