Sustainment
Learning is only of value when it is put into practice (what the scientists call ‘transfer’). A great course is a lovely thing but what really gets people to apply what they’ve discovered once they get back to reality?
Sustainment is all about taking learning out of the classroom and into the workplace. If we have the chance to practise skills in our everyday environment and find clear opportunities to apply our learning, we’re much more likely to change our behaviour for good.
There are four Mind Gym tools for sustainment:
-
Booster
Run days or weeks after a learning event, often immediately before the next one.
-
Pledge
Tagged on the end of a learning event, eg. Workout or Summit.
-
Mission
Done at work, after the learning event and before a Booster.
-
Manager’s toolkit
Usually for line managers to use before, during and after the programme.
