Mission

The Mission gives you a way to succeed by trying out what you’ve just learnt. Should you choose to accept it.

What is a Mission?

Creative, competitive, practical and fun, the Mission is a challenging task that requires individuals to put their new skills into practice back at work in order to deliver an answer or outcome.

Examples of successful Missions include:

  • Graduate induction ‘Dragons den’: Work with your peers to develop a fresh solution to a challenge facing the business.
  • Communication skills ‘Audience appeal’: Compel your peers and manager with an engaging presentation, and act on your manager’s feedback.
  • Management development ‘Top coach’:  Coach each team member using your new skills and reflect on the impact this has.
  • Each Mission is tailor-made to meet each client’s need. It is usually explained in an extra15-minute briefing added to the end of the learning experience. Sometimes participants are given a range of Missions from which to choose.

Three key points:

Each Mission is different, but they all adhere to three principles:

  1. There is a specific objective (or objectives) which require an answer or tangible output, or there is a specific tool to use.
  2. Completing the Mission requires demonstrating observable behaviours that a manager/peer can observe and on which they can provide feedback.
  3. The Mission can be accomplished at work, by the individual without any further support.

For maximum impact, there is usually a debrief or Booster.
