Collaborative solutions

You are sitting in a meeting and it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. Everyone has views but no-one is making decisions and there appears to be increasing fog with little chance of it clearing.

What can you do?

Quite a lot. Judicious use of questions, summarising points, identifying areas of apparent agreement and providing process that helps structure the conversation can help produce collaborative solutions out of apparent discord. At a minimum, the group should be able to agree on what to do next, and an answer may emerge that is owned by everyone and widely praised.

As a result, you could be seen as the saviour of the day. Can’t be bad.

In 90 minutes you will have

  • Become familiar with practical ways to manage the content, process and dynamic of a collaborative discussion.
  • Become able to spot flaws in group decision making and take action to prevent and manage them.
  • Identified how to overcome your personal ‘collaboration demons’.
