People are attracted to careers that have similarity with their names. Research shows more dentists have surnames beginning in ‘DEN’ than ‘LAW’. It may not come as a surprise then, to find higher proportions of lawyers with surnames beginning in ‘LAW’. But who wants a career dictated by their name when we can shape our own futures?
If we set ourselves on a path that we consider right for us, we’re more likely to end up being successful and productive. What’s more, if we help our people to find their perfect path, too, they’ll become high performers who boost business and raise the bar for others.
This workout explores how we can map out our future and help others do the same. With this map in mind, we can identify the steps we need to take to bring us closer to our future vision.
Shaping futures will help people jump off the treadmill of everyday activity and get moving in the right direction.
At the end of this workout you will have:
- Reflected on the development paths of yourself and others
- Explored the many hats of a manager and identified the importance of varying your approach depending on the situation
- Practised using questions to map out your future vision
- Taken a close look at the different moves you and others can take to get you closer to achieving that future vision
