When Tiger Woods, the champion golfer, is about to take a shot, he visualises the ball landing exactly where he wants it to, he then pictures the ball flying through the air and finally ‘sees’ the swing that will make the ball fly effectively.
Steve Redgrave, the Olympic oarsman, says that 60% of his preparation is mental and only 40% physical. Most of his mental preparation involves visualising every step of the race, starting with crossing the finishing line first and working back to hearing the starting gun.
